xPub (Extended Public Key)

An Extended Public Key (xPub) is an integral part of blockchain wallets that use hierarchical deterministic (HD) wallets*.

An xPub allows anyone to create multiple public keys that belong to the wallet. In turn, public keys are used to generate a wallet address that crypto assets can be sent to and from.  xPubs can be used for most, although not all, virtual assets.

*An HD wallet generates all its keys and addresses from one source (seed). Examples of HD wallets include Trezor and BitBox 02.
